The history of Journal of Tongji University can be traced back to 1918. On the proposal of Principal Ruan Shangjie, the medicine and engineering college ofTongji published the first academic journal named Tongji , which was organized by Huang Shengbai as a chief editor, bi-monthly. The current Journal of Tongji University for natural science, began to edit and publish in 1956, quarterly, and changed to bi-monthly periodical in 1995. It renamed as Journal of TongjiUniversity (natural science) in 1997, and has been a monthly journal since 2001, in which we published the academic thesis of natural science about 28.
To establish its own style, Journal of Tongji University (natural science) focuses on rigorous reviewer, high academic quality and editing specification. It has received favorable evaluation from the readers in the past many years. In addition, its academic impact has been improved successively, leading in the academic journals of the same class. According to the latest statistics of China Academic Journal Comprehensive Citation Report, Journal of Tongji University (natural science) has 2055 times of reference frequency and 0.634 of impact factors, getting the rank of 3 and 9 respectively in the 100 key universities in the 21st century in China. As above, it has been a core journal with great academic influence in the field of scientific technology, especially in civil engineering and urban construction-related area.
Journal of Tongji University (natural science) is one of the statistic resources of Chinese core journal of natural science and Chinese science and technology thesis. Also, it is full-text indexed by more than 40 important retrieval systems of both domestic and overseas; not only has a large number of subscribers, but also has communication with more than 60 universities of different countries including Germany, Japan and the United States. Plus, the download-rate has reached to 55%.
Here are some awards for share : the key journal of science and technology in 2nd session of National Journal Award (for 100 journals), 2003; the key journal of science and technology in 3rd session of National Journal Award (for 100 journals), 2005; the boutique journal of science and technology of Chinese university in the first session, 2006; the outstanding academic journal of China in 6th session, 2007; the boutique journal of science and technology of Chinese university in the 2ndsession, 2008; one of the outstanding journals of science and technology of China as well.
In order to get the further promotion in academic and influence, we established the receive-review management system in 2008, and allocated DOI for each thesis; practice Open Access Publishing. We will make great progress in management, operation and international communication.
